My work with cellular automata generated sound and visuals was mentioned by Columbia professor Joshua Mailman, in the Leonardo Electronic Almanac, "Live Visuals," Vol. 19, No. 3 (pages 356 and 380):
"The conceptual influence of visual art on musicians and sonic artists is well recognized. Yet even tighter links are possible, through the coordination of pre-composed generative algorithms whose control input is manipulated improvisationally. ... A compelling example of improvised music and visuals coordinated algorithmically is Paul Hembree’s Chemical Oscillator series (2011-2012), based on cellular automata."
Mailman's own work is quite interesting, with a wonderful technical explanation of some of it included in his article. You can find his article here, and the entire issue of "Live Visuals" is here.
